The Ice 2025: The World's Most Eclectic Concours d'Elegance

This year too, the exclusive elegance contest for vintage cars took place on the frozen lake of St. Moritz. These are unique and rare pieces of inestimable value, but which are brought all the way to the heart of the Alps on a frozen lake, where these cars paraded and competed in a spectacular gentlemen driver race (without times), offering spectators a one-of-a-kind show.
At 2,000 metres above sea level, with temperatures always below zero, the frozen lake of St. Moritz has been the scene of unique events for years, including the legendary White Turf horse races and snow polo tournaments that have been held in this prestigious location since 1907. The track , a classic ring for horse races prepared since January, offered a perfect stage for the exclusive elegance contest The Ice , which has been held since 2019 thanks to the "brilliant" idea of Marco Makaus .
The Ice St. Moritz , the most anticipated international elegance contest of the winter season, kicked off on Friday, February 21, with a parade of cars through the city and down to the lake. Car and lifestyle enthusiasts, a crowd perhaps comparable only to Monte Carlo, gathered to admire over 50 cars ( the complete list with classes at the bottom of the article ) among the most iconic classic and sports cars, in a breathtaking setting, fortunately with splendid weather that framed the snow-capped Alps at over 3,000 meters above sea level.
The parc fermé transformed the Ice village into a real open-air museum, where collectors, experts and visitors shared their passion for style and elegance. Several sponsors, with their personal "boot" to warm up visitors and offer classic champagne, such as Maserati, Loro Piana, Ferrari Classic, Pagani Automobili and Sotheby's. Horacio Pagani himself was present and enjoyed driving his cars on the snow-covered ring.
The level of the cars in the race made the jury's task extremely difficult, but in the end the winners of the five categories were decreed:
• Boats on the Lake: Ferrari 500 TRC Scaglietti (1957)
• Open Wheels: Bugatti 59 (1934)
• Concept Cars & One Offs: Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Aprile (1931)
• Icons on Wheels: Ferrari 275 GTB/4 (1966)
• Racing Legends: Porsche 908/03 (1971)
The grand finale on Saturday 22 February saw the awarding of the prestigious "Best in Show" prize , with the cup designed and conceived by star architect Lord Norman Foster, who obviously has his home in St. Moritz, and the "Spirit of St. Moritz" signed by artist Rolf Sachs. Finally, the public had their say by decreeing their own "Hero Below Zero", voting thanks to the event app The Ice. The day opened with the long-awaited free laps on the lake to the delight of the public, enraptured by the unique spectacle of these automotive wonders reflected on the frozen surface between drifts and breathtaking overtaking. In the afternoon, at the end of the event, all the prizes were awarded.

This year, the trophy was specially designed for The Ice by star architect Lord Norman Foster, who took to the stage to award it to the Bugatti 59 (1934), together with Tilly Harrison, by Richard Mille. Furthermore, on this occasion, the Ferrari 250 GT SWB "Sefac" (1961) was awarded the "Spirit of St. Moritz" prize, signed and presented personally by the artist Rolf Sachs, in the company of Marijana Jakic, CEO of St. Moritz Tourism. Finally, the Lamborghini Miura SV (1972) was awarded the public vote "Hero Below Zero".
