Oswaldo Fernandez: From the fog of alcohol to the rebirth on the pedals

The value of sport is measured far beyond the results on the stopwatch. Sport helps you feel better about yourself and pushes others to follow the same path. And in this, truly, the difference is not between winning or losing a race. You win when you take back your life, as Oswaldo Fernandez did, a cyclist born in Costa Rica and who has been living in Italy for years. In Italy, in Romagna, he first fell, falling victim to the fog of alcohol, then he was reborn, thanks to the pedals of a bicycle . And now he dedicates his time and energy to promoting healthy lifestyles . Also for this reason, his face is one of those chosen by the director Manuel Zani who is working on a film dedicated to the Nove Colli , whose 2025 edition is scheduled for May 18 and which will once again see Fernandez as the protagonist. The aim is to tell the story of the race through the eyes of those who participate for special reasons. Like Fernandez.

"It was an honor to be chosen for this project - he comments - so much so that at this point on the starting line my motivations will be at least double. They seem like clichés, but they are not: sport can really change your life and help you get out of difficult moments. I have been committed to spreading this message for years by participating in races and events of various kinds and the fact of attracting the attention of so many people makes me understand that the direction in which I am moving is definitely the right one".

Fernandez is also competing thanks to the support of Maurizio Novelli and Giorgio Bandini, from the Idroimpianti company, who support his initiatives on the pedals. "Before the Nove Colli another challenge awaits me: tomorrow I will participate in the Cesenatico Triathlon in the 'mixed relay' category together with my friends Chiara Camporesi who will cover the kilometer and 900 meters swimming and Marco Botteghi who will run the 21 kilometers of a half marathon on foot. In the middle there will be me and my bike: 90 kilometers of pedaling await me. And very strong emotions".
