Ex Ilva, accident at blast furnace 1: three managers under investigation

TARANTO - There are three suspects involved in the investigation opened by the Taranto Public Prosecutor's Office into the fire that occurred the other morning at blast furnace 1 of the former Ilva. They are 3 managers of the steelworks, recipients of the evidentiary seizure validated yesterday by the deputy prosecutor Francesco Ciardo. The hypotheses of the crime are willful omission of precautions in the workplace and dangerous throwing of objects. The accident did not cause injuries, but it created apprehension among citizens who shared on social media videos that went viral of the black cloud that enveloped the industrial area and was visible even from kilometers away. Currently, only blast furnace no. 4 is in operation, waiting for number 2 to be put back into operation.
The repercussions on production level are inevitable. About 70 workers, according to union sources, have been temporarily reassigned to training. The accident does not only have production consequences but also has an impact on the negotiations between the commissioner structures of Acciaierie d'Italia in As and Ilva in As and the Azeris of Baku Steel for the sale of the group, because as long as the evidentiary seizure decree is in force, blast furnace 1 cannot be sold and the circumstance naturally complicates the procedures.
