We have news on the health of cyclist Christopher Froome after his serious accident in the Var region.

Christopher Froome has undergone "successful surgery," his team Israel Premier Tech announced on Friday.

The 40-year-old cyclist, who suffered an accident during training on Wednesday in Fayence , was airlifted to Sainte-Musse hospital in Toulon with a pneumothorax and multiple fractures, including one in the lumbar vertebra which required surgery.

"The procedure went as planned. Chris is currently recovering in hospital, being cared for by his medical team. He is in good spirits and grateful for the excellent medical care he has received. Chris and his family would like to thank fans, friends and the cycling community for their concern and kind messages," added the team of the four-time Tour de France winner.
