Sergio Perez with Ferrari, the surprising announcement!

The announcement was made a few weeks ago. After a short year away from the Formula 1 paddock following his ouster from Red Bull, Mexican Sergio Perez, a multiple Grand Prix winner, will return to the starting grid in 2026 at the wheel of the new American team, Cadillac!
But surprise this Thursday, September 18, the first lap will not be with a Cadillac, but with a Ferrari! The American team has reportedly negotiated with the Italian manufacturer to borrow an old car, the Ferrari SF-23, during a TPC (old car test) test in a few days. It's not so surprising, however, to see Perez at Ferrari since the new American team will use the Italian team's engine, gearbox, and suspension, currently under development.
Perez's arrival at Cadillac has been welcomed by many people, including his former teammate, Max Verstappen. "Checo has driven for many different teams, so he knows how they work perfectly. Every team operates a little differently. That's already a very interesting characteristic: it's interesting to understand the strengths of the teams and the weaknesses of the teams. That's how it works for a driver outside of the cockpit. On the handling side of the cars, Checo has seen many regulations, different regulations. They allowed certain things, others didn't, or even been banned, that kind of thing. Having a general understanding of what a great car is and what a car that isn't fantastic is – I think that's very valuable for them initially."
