The 80 minutes and some change played this Sunday, May 4th on the pitch of the Matmut Atlantique stadium finally revealed their truth: the players of Union Bordeaux-Bègles (UBB) will play their first European final on May 24th at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Facing the reigning champions, Toulouse , who were without several of their key players ( Antoine Dupon , Thomas Ramos, Peato Mauvaka), Yannick Bru's men started the game with a bang, with a first try scored at the end of a strong counter-attack by Australian Pete Samu.
Toulouse, struggling in the rucks, hung on, moved back in front, before being punished by a try from the dashing Louis Bielle-Biarrey . At half-time, Bordeaux led 18-11, a score increased to 25-11 after the break after a quick recovery from the same "LBB". The hour mark approached, and Toulouse pressed the accelerator. But UBB held on and ended up going into the in-goal area for a fifth time.
Final score: 35-18. In three weeks, Bordeaux will challenge Northampton, who defeated Leinster on Saturday, in a unique final.
