Despite the rain, a successful first double for the Monaco E-Prix

The days are all the same in Monaco. Or almost. Aside from the weather that decided to confuse the issue this Sunday, the show continued for this second wave of thrills.
After an already lively Saturday where Oliver Rowland won the first round at the end of a race marked by the first pit boost * and the presence of a few celebrities, this Sunday it was Sébastien Buemi who stole the show from the Briton, who came second this time.
This concludes an equally captivating 9th edition of the E-Prix. As proof, the public braved the rain to enjoy an afternoon of thrills. A packed hour of racing that left no time for spectators to get bored, thanks to the fun rules clearly explained by a commentator who could be heard in the stands.
Behind the scenes, officials were also delighted with this first double header.
"It's a resounding success ," said Pablo Martino, head of Formula E at the FIA. " With the pit boost on the first day and a more traditional race on Sunday, we were able to offer the many spectators present two different races, but still a high-flying sporting spectacle. It's the result of a very fruitful collaboration between the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) and Formula E."
"A great event with rain and a great fight""It was a first test for us," recalls Eric Barrabino, ACM General Steward. "On Saturday, we saw beautiful weather and a great race. On Sunday, we had a great event with rain and a great battle. This led to some overtaking despite the renowned narrowness of the Monaco circuit and, therefore, many changes in the standings."
Crowds in the stands, same old story next year?Proof that these 8th and 9th editions of the Monaco E-Prix were a success both on the track and in the stands, 35,000 people were counted in total over the weekend – including the fan zone, where the public could go free of charge without a ticket.
"Surprisingly, we had almost as many people on Sunday as on Saturday ," continued Eric Barrabino. "We can only congratulate ourselves on this event, of which we are very proud. It's another success. I think everyone enjoyed the show." Will it be enough to sign up for two more dates next year? The suspense remains.
