CJ Cup Byron Nelson: Scottie Scheffler disgusts the competition, Antoine Rozner 13th

It's a tremendous achievement, but it will come with some regrets. Antoine Rozner has achieved the best ranking of his (short) career on the PGA Tour, which he is discovering this season. This 13th place (-16) is a fitting reward after several weeks already hovering around the top 30. However, the Frenchman found himself very close to an even more resounding feat after a temporary setback early in the day (29th after his gaps at 3 and 4).
His bogey on the 16th dropped him out of the top 5, having been included after his birdie on the 14th, with eight players finishing one shot ahead of him. The Parisian had another birdie opportunity on the 18th but didn't take it on the last par 5. His 68 on Sunday (one eagle, four birdies, three bogeys) and his consistency (no round above par) will nevertheless help him gain several places in the world rankings and bring him closer to the coveted top 100. This week in Texas will especially boost his confidence, even if the field at this tournament wasn't the strongest of the season. Victor Perez was less conspicuous on this last day, finishing with a 73 synonymous with 60th place (-5).
Higher up, way up there, Scottie Scheffler reigned supreme. Winning wasn't enough for him. So, he crushed the rest of the field: "I'm very lucky to have experienced this moment here, where I made my debut in 2014." The American played darts again during this fourth round, at home in Texas. His bogeys on the 3rd and 17th, with a greenside scratch on this Par 3, just reminded us that he remains human. While Jordan Spieth took 3rd place (-19) by signing a card of 62, his lowest on the PGA Tour since 2021, Scottie Scheffler therefore got his hands on his 14th American tour title by finishing eight strokes ahead of the South African, Erik Van Rooyen. The two protagonists signed the same card this Sunday (63).
Scottie Scheffler's season is getting underway at a fitting time as the PGA Championship, the second Major of the season after the Augusta Masters, is just around the corner.
