Paul Pogba not yet in the Champions League, even if his return is becoming clear

For each of them, the reunion with Ligue 1 was warm, often happy. At the start of the season, the French public is renewing ties with several of its 2018 world champions back in France: Olivier Giroud has already won over the Lille supporters , Florian Thauvin is on the verge of doing the same at RC Lens and Benjamin Pavard scored in his first match with Olympique de Marseille . But there is one who is more discreet than the others and who is generating great expectations: Paul Pogba. Several weeks after the resumption of Ligue 1, the midfielder is still making himself desired.
As has been the case since the start of the AS Monaco (ASM) season, the 32-year-old midfielder will be absent from the squad that will face Bruges on Thursday, September 18 at 6:45 p.m., for the Principality club's Champions League (CL) opener. On the Côte d'Azur, this long unavailability comes as no surprise. It had been anticipated even before the player signed his contract on June 28, and discussed with the Monaco management during a first meeting on May 13. Paul Pogba himself knew he would have to be patient before playing again, more than two years after his last official competitive match, on September 3, 2023, with Juventus Turin.
