Open water swimming: take part in the Carnolès Bay Challenge on Sunday, September 14 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin

On Sunday, September 14, the town of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin is organizing the Carnolès Bay Challenge, a sporting event dedicated to open water swimming.

While the events do not count toward the federal championship, this event, initiated freely by the City, aims above all to promote this discipline in the great outdoors, in an exceptional setting. Two races will be offered to participants.

The first, a distance of 5,000 meters, will be completed in three loops with an Australian transition (land exit), a demanding format that will appeal to the most experienced swimmers. The second, more accessible, will consist of a single loop of 1,500 meters.

The start will be from Carnolès beach, near the sailing base. Swimmers will swim around buoys installed in the 300m strip, sheltered by rocky groynes, ensuring safety and clarity of the course.

A sporty return to school in open water

The 5,000-meter event is open to swimmers aged 16 and over, while the 1,500-meter event is open to swimmers aged 12 and over.

To start, participants must present a valid license issued by the French Swimming Federation or the French Triathlon Federation. Failing this, a medical certificate of no contraindication to competitive open water swimming, dated less than one year ago, will be required for adults.

For minors, a health questionnaire must be completed by the parental authority, certifying that all answers are negative. If this is not the case, a medical certificate dated less than six months ago will be required. It is important to note that foreign licenses or those from other federations will not be accepted.

The Bay Challenge promises to be a highlight of the sporting season in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, combining a competitive spirit, discovery of the coastline and a passion for swimming in the open sea.
