After the controversy that followed Ousmane Dembélé's injury on Friday during Les Bleus' trip to Poland where they faced Ukraine (2-0 victory), the French football team won on Tuesday, September 9, against Iceland, their second qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup. A hard-fought victory, as the French team were behind, played with one player less (Tchouaméni was sent off in the 68th minute), before seeing the video assistance referee cancel an equalizing goal from the Nordiques at the end of the match.

After striker Gudjohnsen opened the scoring in the 21st minute following a huge clearance error from Michael Olise, it was captain Kylian Mbappé who equalized from the penalty spot just before the break, before PSG winger Bradley Barcola sealed the victory for the French in the 62nd minute. With this second win in two matches, the Blues are alone at the top of their group. They will face Azerbaijan next October.
