Slot and his assistant were sent off after the final whistle of the derby on February 12 for protesting to the referee about James Tarkowski's equalising goal, which was awarded after VAR intervention.
By Le Parisien with AFPHe will not sit on the bench at Anfield Road this Wednesday evening when Newcastle are hosted in the Premier League. Liverpool manager Arne Slot will serve the first of his two-match suspension when the Magpies are hosted. "The Liverpool head coach acted inappropriately and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards the match referee and an assistant referee after the end of the match," the English Football Association argued on Wednesday to justify its decision.
On February 12, Everton equalized in the dying moments of the Mersey derby (2-2), causing chaotic scenes on the benches. Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were sent off after the final whistle for protesting to the referee about James Tarkowski's equalizing goal, which was awarded after VAR intervention.
"Arne Slot has admitted the facts and the disciplinary committee has imposed a two-match suspension on him and a fine of £70,000," the federation continued.
"I should have acted differently after the match, but it's an emotional sport and sometimes people make bad decisions and that's what I did," the Dutchman regretted two days after the match.
Slot will also miss the match against Southampton on March 8 but not the first leg against PSG in the Champions League round of 16 on March 5, as his suspension only applies in domestic competitions.
