French Women's Team: "I never thought I could do it," admits Eugénie Le Sommer after her record number of selections

The striker felt "relief" and "pride" after her record number of caps (199) was broken during Tuesday's victory against Iceland (3-2) in Le Mans.
Eugénie, how do you feel after this evening? Eugénie Le Sommer: Everything is mixed together. There is pride, relief. And then, I am happy with the victory. Without it, it would not be the same. Besides, I did not think about it when I warmed up, when I put on my jersey. I was focused on the match, which was tight and had a lot at stake. But the ovation from the crowd reminded me that it was special.
You are now the most capped player in the French team... I am happy, of course. People have been talking about this record for several years. I can't believe it. It all happened one after the other, I didn't think about it. I am proud. I know what it means, especially to surpass Sandrine Soubeyrand, who I saw up close. It's great to succeed her. At the time, her record was incredible, it was great to play so many matches. I remember when she beat it and I never thought I could do it.

You can now reach 200 caps, 100 goals. Are these other records in sight? I don't think about it at all, even if it's not far away. What matters is to perform at club level to come to the national team, and if it comes, it comes.
How important is this record to you, as someone who is involved in developing the sport? I know that I can inspire, I try to be the best I can be because I want to be a role model for little girls. I didn't have one and I know that it can be important for them. For my part, I had my family who have always been behind me. My matches are also a time for them to get together. Tonight, there were my parents, my brothers, my sisters, my cousins. They are part of this story, too.
