Brest - Dunkirk (2-3): new feat for the Northerners, qualified for the semi-finals of the Coupe de France

The Northerners, who play in Ligue 2, completely overturned Stade Brestois after being led by two goals. After eliminating Lille, USLD reached the last four of the Coupe de France for the first time since 1929.
By Andreas GuerinNew miracle for Dunkirk. Already the ones who beat Lille in the round of 16 to everyone's surprise (1-1, 4-5 on penalties), the Northerners managed to achieve a simply phenomenal feat. Trailing ten minutes from the end of regulation time by Stade Brestois, the Dunkirk team turned everything around in a matter of moments to validate their ticket for the last four of the Coupe de France .
From the first quarter of an hour, the current 3rd in Ligue 2 attacked and put Grégoire Coudert to work. Launched on the left side, the Saudi striker Muhannad Yahya Al-Saad shot with his left foot from a tight angle and forced the Brest goalkeeper to save. Everything then suggested that the Dunkirk players would be making another feat.
But the hero and author of the decisive penalty in the match against Losc, Ewen Jaouen, was going to concede a goal that was avoidable to say the least, and at the worst possible moment. A few moments before half-time, Hugo Magnetti launched Mathias Pereira Lage in depth and gave the Dunkirk goalkeeper the opportunity to come out. But the young 19-year-old goalkeeper, a fan of Stade Brestois, hesitated, advanced and then annihilated his exit. The Portuguese midfielder did not ask for so much and adjusted Jaouen with a shot placed under the bar (45th, 1-0).
At the hour mark, the goal scorer took charge of a corner and placed a good ball at the near post on the head of Mahdi Camara. Ewen Jaouen, not without any reproach, missed his intervention and let the ball slip into his net (59th, 2-0). The goalkeeper even nearly conceded a third goal a few seconds later with a post from Ludovic Ajorque following a bad clearance in the center.
But Dunkirk didn't have its last word. After hitting the crossbar after the break, captain Vincent Sasso took advantage of another corner to catapult the ball into the back of the net and reduce the gap (66th, 2-1). Before madness took over the Dunkirk enclosure ten minutes from the end. On another corner, Opa Sangante, who came on in the 64th, took advantage of a backheel from Yacine Bammou and tackled the ball after a mix-up to equalize (80th, 2-2).
Nobody could have imagined what would happen next. Four minutes later, the Guinean defender was on the lookout for a long-range free kick and received the ball with his right foot before following up with his left foot and beating Coudert (84th, 2-3).
USL Dunkerque is in heaven and eliminates Brest after having knocked out Lille and Auxerre in the previous rounds. It had been 96 years since the club had reached the last four of the competition, in 1929 (defeat against FC Sète). The club was called Union Racing Dunkerque-Malo at the time. The draw for the semi-finals of the Coupe de France will take place on Thursday, February 27 from 7:50 p.m.
