Football: Liverpool player Diogo Jota dies at 28 in road accident with his brother

The football world is in mourning. Diogo Jota, the renowned 28-year-old Portuguese striker who played for English club Liverpool, lost his life in a road accident. The tragedy occurred Thursday morning in the southern Spanish province of Zamora, according to Marca , confirmed by the EFE news agency.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. at kilometer 65 of the A-52 motorway, near the town of Palacios de Sanabria. According to initial reports, the vehicle carrying Diogo Jota and his brother André, also a 26-year-old professional footballer, left the roadway and caught fire.
Emergency services, alerted by witnesses, also had to intervene to control a fire that had spread to the surrounding vegetation. Local authorities have opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
Winner of the Premier League with the Reds, then of the Nations League with Portugal at the beginning of June, Diogo Jota got married ten days ago, in front of his three children.
Trained at the Gondomar club, near Porto, the striker then made his mark at Porto and Wolverhampton. He had been playing for Liverpool since 2020, notably under Jurgen Klopp. This rise opened the doors to the national team, where he scored 14 goals in 49 matches.
