"We lacked the spark, the flame, the madness": Bruno Genesio mixed after Lille's draw against OM

"Do you have any regrets after such a match, or do you think you saved the day with a lucky goal? Oh no, not lucky! And no, there are no regrets. It's actually a good point . In football, there's no such thing as a lucky goal. We pressed hard and we were rewarded. And in terms of the game, being able to come back against a very good Marseille team is still a good point. Of course we would have preferred to do better, but you also always have to put everything we've done since the start of the season into perspective. And being able, once again this (Sunday) evening, to display the mental strength we displayed to come back, I think that's quite exceptional."
Aren't there, however, some regrets about having been a little too timid, especially in the first half, and having left the game a little too much to Marseille? Yes, that's more what we can perhaps have some regrets about. We had a very solid first half defensively, well-positioned, well-organized, but we lacked the spark, the flame, the madness. We had almost no shots, I think, in the first half. I would have liked us to take more risks. Perhaps it was the stakes of the match that inhibited us a little. In the second half, we saw a little more. And I liked our reaction after the goal we conceded.
Including the Coupe de France, you've faced OM three times, drawing three times (1-1 each time). Is that something very satisfying for you? If we take all the elements into account, that is to say the budget, the investments, the payroll, we can say that it's rather satisfactory, even if we always want to do better. In addition, in the Cup, we qualified, so it's like a victory. It shows all the qualities of our team and all the qualities of all the people who have worked around this team on a daily basis since the start of the season. Because being able to stand up to OM in all three matches is still quite exceptional.
Compared to the end of the Championship, is there an exciting or a little worrying side to thinking that we can move from second to sixth place? It's a bit of both. It's exciting and that's also why we love this job. It's to experience these kinds of emotions. We would have preferred to be seven points ahead of the fourth-place team, that's for sure. We would have had a more relaxed end to the season, but it also shows the level of the Championship behind Paris. There are a lot of teams that are playing well, that are well organized, well coached by a lot of good coaches, I think. Nothing is decided, everything will be decided on the last day, maybe until the last minute. It will be the teams that have the most composure and that can best manage their emotions that will make it to the end, knowing that there is still a direct confrontation between Monaco and Lyon.
