Arthur Mensch, the man behind Mistral AI, the first French startup valued at 10 billion euros

Mistral AI has made history. The French startup has become the first to be valued at over €10 billion, and behind this success is Arthur Mensch, its founder and CEO. At just 33 years old, the man of the hour can now compete with the global giants of artificial intelligence.
Time magazine had spotted the talent. At the end of last year, Arthur Mensch was the only Frenchman to appear in the Top 100 of the world's most promising personalities. Today, his startup is joining the ranks of AI giants, and Arthur Mensch is heading a decacorn, a term reserved for companies valued at more than 10 billion euros.
Born in Sèvres, in the west of Paris, Arthur Mensch has always made an impression with his intelligence and determination. École Polytechnique, Télécom Paris, École Normale Supérieure, doctorate... the young entrepreneur specialized in computational neuroscience, the study of how the brain processes information.
After his studies, he learned his trade in the United States at DeepMind, Google's AI lab. This decisive experience gave him a global and ambitious vision of artificial intelligence. Back in France, he founded Mistral AI with two Meta alumni, Guillaume Lample and Timothée Lacroix. Together, they combine technical expertise and strategic vision to build a startup capable of competing with American giants.

Arthur Mensch is committed to ensuring Mistral reflects European values. His goal: to develop artificial intelligence focused on innovation, yet respectful of the individual and aware of ethical and social issues. It was with this in mind that he launched Le Chat, the French competitor to ChatGPT, designed to offer more human and intuitive conversations. For him, mastering AI requires a balance between technological performance and responsibility.
With Mistral AI, Arthur Mensch demonstrates that it is possible to reconcile scientific excellence and human values, and that a French start-up can now compete with the global giants of Artificial Intelligence.
