Lyon: Council of State confirms dissolution of far-right groups Les Remparts and La Traboule

On June 26, the government announced that it was dissolving the far-right groups Les Remparts (formerly Génération Identitaire), as well as the associations La Traboule (a community bar) and Top Sport Rhône (a gym) located in the 5th arrondissement of Lyon. The government considered that Les Remparts "provoke or contribute to discrimination, hatred or violence through its actions" and that the group "engages in a discourse that provokes hatred, discrimination and violence against foreigners by developing a discourse focused on the defense of race and the incompatibility between Islam and Western civilization."

In a press release, Les Remparts announced that it was contesting the sentence with the Council of State and denounced it as an "arbitrary decision" . A request rejected by the latter on July 2, which confirms the dissolution of the group. In its decision published on July 31, the Council of State ruled that "given the seriousness and recurrence of the actions mentioned in the preceding points, the dissolution measure taken with regard to "Les Remparts", "La Traboule" and "Top Sport Rhône" cannot be considered, in this case, as lacking in necessity, nor as being disproportionate in view of the risks of disturbances to public order resulting from these actions."
