Vosges Mountains. What is the history of the Altenberg Hotel in the Munster Valley?

Originally, this place called Altenberg (Old Mountain) housed a luxury hotel-restaurant designed by Alfred Hartmann (1826-1898), an industrialist from the Hartmann dynasty of Munster.

Built on the heights of the commune of Stosswhir in the Alsatian Vosges, not far from the Schlucht pass, this prestigious hotel was inaugurated on August 3, 1896.

At the time, few hotels, even the most renowned, could rival the Altenberg in comfort. The establishment had 40 rooms, two dining rooms, two lounges, a café, and a large enclosed and heated veranda, decorated with large tiled panels...
