Weather: These are the cities where temperatures will explode this Thursday, May 1, 2025

This Thursday, May 1st, temperatures will feel like July . Several departments are expected to reach temperatures above 27°C, and some will even reach 28°C. This exceptional situation will not last, as weather conditions are expected to become more unstable.

Up to 30°C locally: the peak expected on May 1

This Thursday, May 1st, the country will be under the influence of a particularly warm southerly flow, as explained by Météo-France . The sun will dominate over a large part of the country , despite some cloudy periods at higher altitudes. According to forecasts, temperatures will climb to 28°C in the Southwest.

According to La Chaîne Météo , the heat threshold (25°C) will therefore be exceeded in the majority of departments , with a thermal anomaly of 8 to 10°C compared to seasonal norms.

Contrasts according to the regions

Not all French people will benefit from the same summer scenario. In the Hauts-de-France region, the mild weather will remain relatively mild, due to a more prevalent cloud cover. In the Alpine region, isolated thunderstorms could break out late in the day, warns Météo-France . In Corsica, brief showers are also possible, although sunshine will generally prevail.

The Autan wind will blow strongly in the southwest, with gusts reaching 80 to 90 km/h in some regions, according to Météo-Villes experts. This warm wind will contribute to the feeling of heat in the southern departments of the Massif Central and as far north as Aquitaine.

A weekend under the influence of a cold drop

But this summer break will be short-lived . Starting this Friday, May 2, a cold drop in the Atlantic will begin to influence the national weather. "With the circulation of a low pressure system off the coast to the west of the country on Thursday, the sky is likely to become cloudier from the Atlantic coast to the Cotentin peninsula, with possibly a few showers at times, and a significant drop in temperatures as a result," warns Météo-France.

Thunderstorms are expected between Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées, and temperatures will begin to drop sharply as early as Sunday. Meteorologists are predicting a possible drop of 10 to 15°C in 48 hours .

For the May 8th bank holiday, the outlook remains uncertain. According to early forecasts, a return to calmer weather is possible thanks to a surge in high pressure. It will be cooler, but the afternoons could remain pleasant . "May is shaping up to be a very changeable month," summarizes Nicolas Le Friant, a weather expert quoted by La Chaîne Météo .
