Politics. A new text to reintroduce acetamiprid? Laurent Duplomb doesn't rule it out

This Friday, LR senator for Haute-Loire, Laurent Duplomb, did not rule out a new text to reintroduce the contested pesticide acetamiprid, but this time taking into account the criteria imposed by the Sages.

The Constitutional Council says that the reintroduction, under conditions, of acetamiprid, banned in France since 2018, "was not yet sufficiently regulated over time, (that) it was not yet sufficiently regulated on the list of sectors", in the text that I presented, he acknowledged on RMC.

"In fact, it gives us the elements which could allow, with a new text, to find solutions to be able to perhaps reintroduce" acetamiprid, a pesticide from the neonicotinoid family, the reintroduction of which was deemed by the Sages to be contrary to the Environmental Charter.

"There are 27 countries in Europe, and 26 countries allow it. This is the reality, and not wanting to look at it puts French productions in a dead end," he also regretted.

The Constitutional Council's decision was hailed on the left as a victory for ecology.

"There is still time to consider what will happen and how we will be able to do it," added Laurent Duplomb, believing that "the Constitutional Council is not closing the door."

The reintroduction of acetamiprid under special conditions has crystallized the protest against the Duplomb law. Its return was demanded by some beet and hazelnut producers to combat pests.

In their decision, the Sages recall that neonicotinoids "have an impact on biodiversity, particularly for pollinating insects and birds" and "induce risks for human health."

The FNSEA, the leading agricultural union, denounced the decision as "unacceptable".
