Starting this Saturday, August 9, the Dordogne department is on orange alert for heatwaves, along with parts of the southwest departments. Temperatures of up to 39 degrees are expected over the weekend.

After a gloomy end to July, good weather is returning to the department. And the skies will be accompanied by a significant heatwave. During this weekend of August 9 and 10, Météo-France is forecasting temperature peaks of around 39 degrees Celsius for the Dordogne. The department is placed on orange alert for heatwaves starting Saturday midday.

The night will also be stifling, with temperatures not expected to drop below 20 degrees Celsius. "The intense heat will tend to intensify and spread over the following days. It will continue into early next week," adds Météo-France. In anticipation of this heatwave, the Cassiopea teleassistance service will activate its crisis management plan to mobilize staff to assist the most vulnerable. Across the department, 7,200 people use this service.
