The mountain route just a stone's throw from Jaén is considered one of the most beautiful in Spain.

Throughout Spain, there are countless mountain routes that pass through landscapes that look like something out of a movie, especially in very specific areas of the country, such as the Pyrenees. However, there is one route that is unanimous among trekking enthusiasts: the Devil's Crest route, located in the province of Jaén, is considered one of the most beautiful in the entire country due to the breathtaking views that can be enjoyed while hiking it.
This impressive trail is located just a few kilometers from the city of Jaén, in the stunning surroundings of Jabalcruz Hill. Although it may seem challenging, even for those with extensive hiking experience, it's not extremely difficult, and the scenic views along the way make it well worth the effort.
The Devil's Crest route in JaénThis extraordinary route is just over 11 kilometers long and starts at the old spa town of Jabalcruz, a place you should stop for a few moments to explore before beginning the route. Despite some sections with a significant gradient (in fact, at some points, the altitude reaches over 1,600 meters), the terrain is not very difficult, although it should be noted that the entire route takes about five hours.
This well-marked trail departs from the thermal spa and aims to reach the summit of Jabalcruz Hill, traversing lush pine forests and rocky surroundings that add to the enchanting experience. The most spectacular part of the trail is precisely the enclave that gives it its name: Devil's Crest, a truly astonishing place: several peaks meet here and are made up of very unusual rock formations.
If you take this splendid mountain route on a clear, sunny day, hikers will be fortunate enough to witness a magical scene, as the panoramic views of all the surrounding mountains (and even the city of Jaén) that stretch out before them are unforgettable. All this makes this trail one of the best options for a nature excursion in Andalusia.
It takes just fifteen minutes by road from the provincial capital to reach the ancient hot springs of Jabalcruz, the origin of the route (next door is an incredible farm that is still operational). To get there, simply head towards the A-6050 and take the detour to the left that leads to the spa.
