This trio of routes are ideal for those who enjoy road trips while spending time with family or friends and capturing the beauty of the landscape.
In British Columbia , Highway 99 , known as the Sea to Sky Highway, connects Vancouver with Whistler along one of Canada's most scenic routes.
The road winds alongside the Howe Sound inlet, where ocean, mist, and coastal forests intertwine in an ever-changing landscape. Porteau Cove is a tempting spot for travelers to pause and admire the views; further on, Shannon Falls amazes with its 335-meter plunge. About two kilometers from Squamish, the Sea to Sky Gondola ascends to reveal a panorama of alpine trails and the suspended Sky Pilot walkway.
The route continues through dense forests and scenic viewpoints such as Stawamus Chief , one of the largest granite monoliths in the world. Near Whistler , you'll find Brandywine Falls and access to Garibaldi Provincial Park , ideal for hiking among glacial lakes.
Note: the route can be enjoyed year-round; in winter, Brackendale offers the chance to spot bald eagles. Don't forget to stop at Tantalus Lookout and finish with a coffee at Function Junction.
The Amalfi Coast – Strada Statale 163 – connects Sorrento to Positano. Those who travel along it have the opportunity to experience picture-perfect scenery, complete with narrow curves, cliffs plunging into the Mediterranean, and villages that blend history, elegance, and charm.
On the route from Sorrento to Positano, you'll see cascading houses, linen boutiques, and terraces overlooking the sea.
Further along the coast, Praiano offers tranquility and golden sunsets; Amalfi impresses with its Byzantine-style cathedral and artisanal paper workshops. High above, Ravello boasts hanging gardens like those at Villa Rufolo.
Spring and autumn are ideal times to enjoy this route without the summer traffic or the closure of some businesses during the winter. Its scenic beauty remains in every season.
Take note: drive patiently or hire a local driver; coastal public transport is also a good option. Try the artisanal limoncello, especially between Minori and Maiori, where lemons grow on gravity-defying terraces.
The Carretera Austral - Route CH-7 - runs for more than 1,200 kilometers between Puerto Montt and Villa O'Higgins , crossing fjords, glaciers, lakes and forests that define Chilean Patagonia.
Considered one of the most spectacular scenic routes in the world, it connects isolated communities and landscapes that retain their untamed character. From the start, the road skirts glacial lakes and crosses ancient forests until reaching Queulat National Park , where the Hanging Glacier cascades down the mountain like an icy veil. Further along, Coyhaique offers a place to refuel and plan new stops.
One of the most memorable stretches is Puerto Río Tranquilo , the starting point for sailing on General Carrera Lake and visiting the Marble Caves, mineral formations sculpted by water. Between November and March, the long days and stable weather make it easier to explore this route at a leisurely pace.
Take note: bring water, snacks, technical clothing and plan each section: there are areas without signal or gas stations.
