Woman wins $150,000 in Powerball using ChatGPT numbers and donates everything

Midlothian, Virginia , resident Carrie Edwards turned a chance experience into an act of generosity. The widowed woman won $150,000 in the Powerball by picking numbers with the help of ChatGPT , an artificial intelligence tool, and decided to give all of the money to charity .
Edwards explained that he had never played online and was unsure which combination to choose. During the Virginia Lottery awards ceremony, he said he thought he'd turn to ChatGPT for suggestions.
“I was wondering how to pick my numbers because I'd never played online before, so I thought I'd ask ChatGPT,” she said. The AI reminded her that it's all about luck , but still offered her a set of numbers that Carrie used for her bet.
He entered the September 8 drawing for the first time, paying an extra dollar for the Power Play option, which tripled the value of his winnings.
Two days after the drawing, Edwards received a notification on his phone: "Please collect your lottery winnings." He initially thought it was a scam , but when he logged into his account, he found he had matched four of the five main numbers and the special Powerball .
The prize was presented by Khalid Jones, executive director of the Virginia Lottery , confirming the amount of $150,000 . The story drew attention not only for the use of ChatGPT , but also for the winner's selfless decision .
Carrie Edwards donated her entire prize money to three organizations:
- AFTD (Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration): funds research into the condition suffered by her husband, a deceased firefighter.
- Shalom Farms: Combating Food Insecurity.
- Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society: Supports members of the Navy and their families.
“As soon as I felt that blessing, I knew what I had to do. I want this to be an example for those who, seeing themselves fortunate, decide to help others,” Edwards said. For her, these organizations represent healing, service, and community .
