The Treasury dismisses the deputy director of Local Taxes and the financial director of Loterías, accused in the Montoro case.

Montero removes Óscar del Amo, who until now headed the General Subdirectorate of Local Taxes, and Rogelio Menéndez, financial director of the Lottery, from their positions following their indictment in the alleged corruption scheme involving the former Minister of Finance.
The Ministry of Finance finally decided this Friday to cut its last ties with the alleged corruption case involving former minister Cristóbal Montoro , removing two officials from that era who still held responsibilities within the department and have been charged.
According to official sources confirmed to EXPANSIÓN, the Treasury Department dismissed Óscar del Amo this Friday. He was previously head of the Subdirectorate General of Local Taxes . The judicial investigation order indicates that he "may have actively participated in the events under investigation." Also dismissed from his duties was the economic and financial director of the Loterías (Spanish Lottery), Rogelio Menéndez. He was an advisor to Montoro and is the brother of another of the defendants, former Tax Agency director Santiago Menéndez.
The Ministry headed by the First Vice President of the Government and head of the Treasury, María Jesús Montero , thus cuts off any connection with the alleged network of influence that her predecessor in office allegedly set up during Mariano Rajoy 's governments to benefit companies in exchange for money.
"We are reviewing the details of the charges against him and, of course, we are in contact with this person to make the right decisions," Montero herself stated this morning when asked about the future of the deputy director of Local Taxes.
"The person you are referring to is not a senior official in the Ministry of Finance , nor is he an appointment made by the Council of Ministers, but rather he is occupying the ranks of the civil service that he is eligible for ," the vice president clarified to the media upon her arrival at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) .
Del Amo , who is a tax inspector , will be able to continue performing that role but will be removed from the deputy directorship, which is a freely appointed position within the Ministry.
The position of Deputy Director General of Local Taxes had been requested this Friday by Sumar , the minority member of the governing coalition formed with the PSOE . "Montoro is a crook who created a corruption structure within the Ministry. We cannot allow traces of this corruption to remain embedded in the structure of the Ministry of Finance. This person must be dismissed immediately," Yolanda Díaz 's party had claimed on social media.
The plot has been revealed amid the scandal surrounding the corruption investigation opened against the last two organizational secretaries of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) , for the alleged receipt of commissions in exchange for contracts awarded in the so-called Koldo case . Montero sought to differentiate the reaction of each party to this type of news. "The Popular Party is always closely associated with systemic corruption," the president asserted, emphasizing that the PSOE has apologized and expelled those involved from the party, ignoring the fact that Montoro himself requested his resignation from the PP this Thursday after Génova opened a case against him.
28 defendantsFormer Finance Minister Cristóbal Montoro was charged on Wednesday by a judge in Tarragona, as a result of a judicial investigation that had been kept secret since 2018, for allegedly taking advantage of his position to modify tax legislation in favor of gas companies that were clients of his law firm , Equipo Económico .
The ruling contains evidence of the existence of a network of influences, involving a total of 28 individuals and six companies , linked to the alleged commission of seven crimes : bribery, fraud against the public administration, malfeasance, influence peddling, prohibited negotiations, business corruption, and document falsification.
"The use of such powers would have allowed the Economic Team to offer companies from different sectors reforms that benefited their economic interests, to the detriment of the public sector," the ruling states, which considers that the office became a gateway to negotiate favors with the Ministry's leadership.
In addition to Montoro himself, or Del Amo, the accused include the former Secretary of State for Finance Miguel Ferré , the former Undersecretary Pilar Platero , several former general directors appointed by the then Minister of Finance, the former directors of the Tax Agency Santiago Menéndez and Salvador Ruiz Gallud , and the current president of the Economic Team, Ricardo Martínez Rico .
