Samuel García Reshuffles Cabinet: Power Struggle in New Mexico?

Nuevo León Governor Samuel García has reorganized his team with significant changes in the government's three main administrative units. According to official sources, this move seeks to streamline processes and improve results as he heads into the final stretch of his term.

With just over two years to go until the next state elections, Nuevo León's political landscape has been shaken up. Governor Samuel García announced a series of cabinet adjustments, appointing new leaders for the three macro-units that coordinate the government: Good Government, Sustainable Wealth, and Equality for All.

Officially, the goal is to have a more effective government and improve coordination between departments. However, in political circles, the moves are interpreted as a strategic move ahead of the 2027 succession and a reflection of the tensions and power shifts within the Citizen Movement (MC).

The New Key Appointments

The reorganization puts new figures at the head of state government coordination:

* Good Government Cabinet: It will be headed by Mike Flores, who will also assume the role of Secretary General of Government. He will coordinate critical areas such as Security, Treasury, and Comptroller's Office.

* Sustainable Wealth Cabinet: It will be headed by Federico Rojas Veloquio, who will continue as Secretary of Labor. He will oversee economic portfolios such as Economy, Mobility, and Tourism.

* Cabinet of Equality for All: It will be led by Daniel Acosta, who will continue to head the Secretariat of Citizen Participation and will coordinate social areas such as Health, Education, and Culture.

These changes, according to government sources, will not entail an increase in bureaucracy, but rather a restructuring to optimize operations.

Internal Tensions and the Future of Navarro

One of the most contentious points of this reorganization has been the future of Javier Navarro, who is leaving the position of General Secretary of the Government. His departure has been the subject of intense negotiations and speculation. Sources close to the government indicate that Navarro was resisting the changes and that his future is being negotiated directly with the national leadership of MC and with Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas.

The situation has been described as a "cabinet of tensions." Local business leaders even asked the governor not to remove Navarro from his post, highlighting the external and internal pressures surrounding these decisions. Speculation suggests that Navarro may be planning a run for the Senate, which would explain his reluctance to accept another position on the governor's staff.

The Political Context: The Race for 2027 Has Already Begun

These moves cannot be analyzed in isolation. They occur in a context of political ferment in Nuevo León, where the 2027 gubernatorial race has already unofficially begun. The changes to the cabinet and the MC party's caucus in the local Congress are seen as an attempt by Samuel García to consolidate his team and position his most loyal supporters ahead of the electoral contest.

The reorganization has created fissures and put the party on edge, while the leadership teams that will compete for power in one of the country's most important states are being defined. The big question that remains is whether these changes will achieve the promised "effectiveness" or if they are the first chapter in an intense battle for succession.
