Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay was allegedly assassinated during the recent Barranquilla Carnival . This was confirmed by journalist Darcy Quinn based on statements given to authorities by Katherine Andrea Martínez, alias "Gabriela," the 19-year-old woman arrested for her alleged involvement in the June 7 assassination attempt in Bogotá.

"One of the things (Gabriela) mentioned is that there were several attempts to assassinate Miguel Uribe. One of them was allegedly at the Barranquilla Carnival , where Miguel Uribe also went without escorts, in a vehicle that was lent to him, which broke down, and that's why he couldn't get to the events on time," the journalist revealed.

This year, the Barranquilla Carnival took place from March 1st to 4th, with nearly 800,000 tourists in attendance.

Journalist Quinn stated that, according to Katherine Andrea Martínez's confessions, before the attack on Saturday, June 7, in El Golfito Park, in the Modelia neighborhood of the country's capital , there had been "three other attempts" to assassinate the Democratic Center congressman.

Alias ​​"Gabriela" was captured last weekend in Florencia, Caquetá, where she allegedly fled after the hit, and was taken to the Prosecutor's Office bunker in the country's capital.

On Tuesday, June 17, the Prosecutor's Office charged her with attempted murder as a co-conspirator and illegal possession of weapons, charges she did not admit to.

However, a judge in charge of judicial review ordered him to be held in prison. For security reasons, he remains in the Prosecutor's Office bunker.

This Friday, June 20, fourteen days after the attack against Senator Uribe Turbay, the representative to the House, José Jaime Uscátegui, assured that he warned the Attorney General's Office, in November 2024, of a plan to attack several politicians, including Uribe and him.

Uscátegui, who is a member of the Democratic Center, the same party as Senator Uribe Turbay, published a video on his account on the social network X, in which he makes the serious accusation: "Since November 20, 2024, I delivered a very delicate complaint to the Attorney General's Office, there are those filed, and the Police Protection Directorate, reporting that two urban commandos, with the famous 'Pisas', came from the south of the country to carry out an attack here in Bogotá, against a member of the Democratic Center, including by name Miguel Uribe, the undersigned and other congressmen."

The congressman added that he gave the investigating body "the two addresses from which the coordination would be carried out in Bogotá and I provided all the information so that these authorities could take some kind of action."

In the same publication, Representative Uscátegui stated that "now that the events have occurred, I have asked the Prosecutor's Office what process was given to this complaint, and I am still waiting . Because it is very serious that, months before, the Prosecutor's Office and the authorities had information, an alert like this, and then no action has been taken."

The congressman added that, in his opinion, the lack of response to the complaint "points to, or contributes to, the idea that this was a state crime, and that's why we're asking the Attorney General's Office for maximum transparency and speed because they were already on notice ."

Nearly two weeks after the attack on Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay , the politician remains under close observation while his health remains "extremely critical."

The Santa Fe Foundation clinic in Bogotá reported last Wednesday that updates on the 39-year-old politician's health would only be provided when there were significant changes in his progress.
