An operation against hydrocarbon trafficking in Mexico results in the arrest of businessmen and officials.

Mexico's Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) has announced the arrest of several senior company officials and public officials related to the seizure of a ship carrying 10 million liters of diesel at the end of March, allegedly belonging to a criminal organization dedicated to smuggling hydrocarbons in the country.

After conducting the necessary investigations, an operation formed by the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the SSPC has arrested multiple people involved in the illegal plot , although their identities have not yet been revealed.

"It should be noted that these actions were carried out in accordance with the principles that characterize the current federal administration in the fight against corruption and impunity," the Secretariat stated in a statement.

The detainees, among whom they emphasized are businesspeople and public employees , have been handed over to the authorities, and a press conference will be held this Sunday to provide more details about the operation.

Mexican Security Minister Omar García Harfuch has stated that the investigation "is ongoing" and that they hope to "arrest all those involved in this crime."

The ship, searched by police authorities while detained in the port of Tampico, contained, in addition to the fuel cargo, 192 containers of merchandise, 29 trucks with trailers, three pickup trucks, computers, and weapons . Inside, two handguns with loaded magazines, 84 cartridges of various calibers, and various documentation were found.

At the same time, authorities searched properties between Camino Antiguo a Medrano and the bypass in the Ricardo Flores Magón community, both in the city of Altamira. There, 18 handgun cartridges and various documents were found.
