Bill Gates puts his hydrogen-powered superyacht up for sale for $645 million: it has a landing strip and basketball court.

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and one of the most influential figures in the technology world, has decided to put one of his most exclusive assets up for sale: the Breakthrough superyacht.

Measuring 118.8 meters in length and with an estimated price of $645 million, the vessel will go on sale for the first time at the prestigious Monaco Boat Show, an event that brings together the leading builders and buyers of the luxury boat industry.

The Breakthrough was designed to become a floating residence.

Its facilities include a basketball court, heated swimming pool, cinema, jacuzzis, libraries and a private hospital .

It also has a helicopter landing area and 15 cabins that can accommodate up to 30 guests.

The main deck was conceived as a four-story home reserved for the owner. This section houses two bedrooms, double bathrooms, dressing rooms, a gym, a pantry, offices with a fireplace, a main living room, an elevator, and a staircase surrounded by bookshelves.

The entire complex is accompanied by crew service spaces, allowing for autonomous operation during extended voyages.

Built by the Dutch shipyard Feadship and designed by RWD, the yacht features five decks above the waterline and two additional decks underwater.

Its interior combines marble, leather, rattan and whitewashed oak , along with textured fabrics that provide a contemporary coastal aesthetic.

A distinctive detail is the 14 retractable balconies that deploy at the touch of a button, expanding the living spaces and connecting the interior areas with the maritime surroundings.

This feature makes the Breakthrough a benchmark of architectural innovation within the naval industry.

The Breakthrough is considered the first “net-zero” superyacht thanks to its liquid hydrogen propulsion system, stored at -253°C in high-security tanks.

Energy is obtained through fuel cells that combine hydrogen and oxygen , generating electricity and water as the only byproducts.

The thermal energy produced during this process is reused to heat swimming pools, steam rooms, and radiant floors, optimizing the vessel's efficiency.

Furthermore, on long voyages, it can use second-generation biofuels, which reduces polluting emissions by up to 90% compared to a conventional ship.

Although it is publicly identified as the property of Bill Gates, it has emerged that the businessman never used the Breakthrough or boarded it.

According to the specialized media 'Luxury Launches', the billionaire did not enjoy any of the amenities designed for him.
