The Israeli Defense Ministry approves the plan to take over Gaza City and mobilizes 60,000 reservists.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz approved last night the Israeli Army's plans to conquer Gaza City, which include the call-up of tens of thousands of reserve soldiers , local media reported Wednesday.

According to the Israeli newspaper Maariv, more than 60,000 reservists will receive orders today to report within the next two weeks, while another 70,000 will be required to extend their current service for an additional 30 or 40 days.

The plan also includes the evacuation of the entire population of Gaza City, estimated at around one million people, many of them displaced from other parts of the Gaza Strip.

Israel has not yet commented on the latest ceasefire proposal, after the Islamist group Hamas announced two days ago that it had approved a truce agreement proposed by Egyptian and Qatari mediators.

Nearly two weeks ago, the Israeli government approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu 's plan to extend his offensive to Gaza City, despite opposition from the Israeli military, which fears putting the hostages still held in the enclave at risk.

The families of the hostages, for their part, have been demonstrating ever since, demanding a comprehensive agreement with Hamas that would end the war and release the 50 hostages still held in the Strip, of whom Israel estimates at least 20 are still alive.
