The fire in Carballeda de Valdeorras (Ourense) remains active after burning more than 500 hectares.

A forest fire has been raging in the parish of Casaio , located in Carballeda de Valdeorras ( Ourense ), since Saturday afternoon. According to initial estimates by the Regional Ministry of Rural Environment , the fire has already devastated more than 500 hectares .
Strong gusts of wind are significantly complicating the firefighting effort, after the fire broke out at 2:56 p.m. the previous day. Local residents' accounts indicate that the fire originated near the old Valborraz tungsten mine . Furthermore, during the early morning hours, the flames spread , endangering the village.
To combat the fire, three technicians, eighteen agents , twenty-two brigades , twenty-one motor pumps, four shovels, three technical support units, six helicopters and four airplanes have been deployed .
The parish of Casaio was already the scene of another major fire in August, when 5,300 hectares burned in the Trevinca Mountains area , according to data from the Xunta ( regional government). On that occasion, the fire originated in Porto , in the Sanabria region of Zamora, and crossed the border into Ourense.
