Riot breaks out at Tuxpan prison, inmates set fire to facilities

Inmates at the Tuxpan prison in Veracruz started a riot inside the prison, setting it on fire , triggering a mobilization of authorities in the area, although the reasons are still unknown.

According to local media, the riot broke out after prison authorities transferred some inmates to other prisons.

Members of the Public Security Secretariat , the Navy Secretariat, and the National Defense Secretariat arrived at the scene to secure the area, so the incident has been kept under wraps.

To date, neither state nor municipal authorities have issued a statement with official information about what happened, nor about the situation of the inmates and guards inside the building, although according to unofficial sources, there are reports of injuries and deaths .
