Middle East tensions: The United States announces an agreement to end the conflict between Israel and Syria.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday an agreement with the parties to halt the conflict between Israel and Syria , which has been aggravated by the Israeli state's bombing of Damascus.
"We have reached out to all parties involved in the fighting in Syria. We have agreed to specific steps that will bring this troubling and terrifying situation to an end tonight," the US Secretary of State detailed on social media.

Rubio, who did not reveal further details, added that the agreement "will require all parties to honor their commitments, and that's what we expect."
Previously, the Secretary of State had expressed "great concern" about the bombing and attributed the clash to a "misunderstanding between the Israeli side and the Syrian side."
"In the coming hours, we hope to see real progress toward ending what's happening," he told reporters from the Oval Office, alongside President Donald Trump.
Israel launched a massive wave of airstrikes on Wednesday targeting the vicinity of the General Staff headquarters and the Presidential Palace in Damascus , killing three people and wounding 34 others, according to the latest official report.
Furthermore, for the third consecutive day, it attacked the southern Syrian province of Al-Suida, where intense clashes are taking place between government troops and factions of the Druze minority, which Israel claims to defend.
"These are historical rivalries, and they led to a regrettable situation and misunderstanding between the Israeli side and the Syrian side," Rubio said.

The 22-nation Arab League on Wednesday strongly condemned Israeli attacks against Syria, including the bombing of the vicinity of the General Staff headquarters and the Presidential Palace in Damascus, and accused Israel of attempting to "sow chaos in Syria."
In a statement, the General Secretariat of the pan-Arab organization, chaired by Ahmed Abulgeit, called the Israeli bombings a "flagrant attack on the sovereignty of an Arab state, a member of the Arab League and the United Nations," as well as "a violation of international law."
The organization insisted that the Israeli attacks "constitute intimidation that neither the regional nor the international community can accept or tolerate, and that they must cease immediately."
For the Arab League, the Jewish state is seeking to "sow chaos in Syria, taking advantage of recent events" in the southern province of Al-Suida —a Druze majority—where clashes have erupted in recent days and there have been reports of abuses against its population.

"The Syrian authorities themselves condemned them in a statement, calling them shameful acts. They pledged to investigate and punish anyone found guilty of violations or infractions," the statement added.
The Arab body concluded by expressing "its full solidarity with Syria in the face of these Israeli attacks, calling on the government (in Damascus) to act swiftly to defuse the conflict, address existing tensions through dialogue, and work to include all components of the Syrian people within a national framework."
The reaction comes after the Israeli military confirmed the bombing of "a military target" near the Syrian Presidential Palace in the Syrian capital, in a wave of attacks that could "last for days."
Since Monday, the Jewish state has already carried out several airstrikes against Damascus troops in the southern province of Al Suwayda, measures it justifies as an attempt to prevent the militarization of areas near its border and to defend the Druze community.

Israel said Wednesday it was acting "responsibly" and with "restraint" in Syria, after its military bombed Syrian government sites in Damascus and other areas of the country.
"The commanders and soldiers are acting responsibly and with restraint," said Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir during a visit to the Israeli-occupied portion of the Syrian Golan Heights.
