Israeli protesters block highways to demand a Gaza hostage deal.

Several groups of Israeli protesters blocked several of Israel's main highways on Sunday to demand an agreement that would allow for the release of the hostages still held in the Gaza Strip.
Protesters blocked Highway 1, which connects Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, with burning tires placed in both directions, as seen in images shared by Israeli pro-democracy groups and several local media outlets. Highways 4 and 6 were also blocked.
The protests mark the start of a day-long national strike called by the main group of hostage families, the Forum of Families of Hostages and Missing Persons.
The call has been supported by some unions and several hundred businesses, although it is still unclear how widely it will be followed nationwide.
This morning, at a press conference to launch the strike, relatives of those kidnapped and killed in the Hamas attacks of October 7 called on the Israeli government for a comprehensive agreement that would free all hostages in the enclave and end the war in Gaza.
"Without these conditions, we know the other side will not accept," said Naomi Abir, the mother of a young man with dual American and Israeli citizenship who was killed at the Nova music festival, in statements reported by the local press.
