A rally is being called to demand emergency level 3 for the fires in León.

Citizens of León affected by the forest fires in the province have called for a rally in front of León City Hall this Monday, August 18 , at 8:00 p.m. to demand the declaration of a Level 3 emergency of national interest and the resignation of those responsible for the Regional Government of Castile and León.
Under the slogan "Against the fire of inaction: Prevention and resources now!", the organizers criticize the lack of resources to confront the wave of fires affecting the province and large areas of the Community, where the magnitude of the situation "exceeds the response capacity of regional and local resources, compromising the safety of the population and the protection of the environment."
Within this framework, they emphasized that one of the reasons for this gathering is the fire affecting the Picos de Europa National Park and the "unbreathable" air conditions in the León region, which, in their opinion, "poses an obvious health problem for the most vulnerable people."
They also indicated that the Regional Government's management has been marked by "cuts in prevention and precarious conditions" for forest firefighters, and they blame the Regional Minister of Environment, Housing and Land Use Planning, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, and the Director General of Natural Heritage and Forest Policy, José Ángel Arranz, for this situation.
On the other hand, they have criticized "climate denialism," the "poor working conditions" of forest firefighters, and the "transfer of funds from the public to the private sector, which have had regrettable consequences."
