Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly not set to become the new coach of record world champions Brazil after all. What does this mean for Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso's future?
Carlo Ancelotti will reportedly not be the new national football coach of Brazil after all. The 65-year-old Italian reportedly turned down the offer. According to "Marca," he flew to London specifically to sign the contract. However, the collaboration once again fell through.
Ancelotti reportedly thanked the Brazilian federation president for his interest, but is now considering an offer from Saudi Arabia. This marks the second time the Brazilians have failed to sign the highly decorated coach.
He was supposed to take over the Seleção, which had been struggling for years, a year ago. According to the association's officials, there was a verbal agreement at the time. However, Ancelotti stayed at Real.
There is much speculation about the exact reasons for this latest failure. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid blocked the deal, and the Brazilians aren't willing to wait much longer.
Ancelotti is reportedly demanding a severance payment, as his contract with Real Madrid is still valid for over a year, until June 30, 2026. However, after Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez reportedly heard of a verbal agreement between Ancelotti and the Brazilian federation, he is refusing such a payment.
The Brazilian portal "O Globo" wrote: "The deal between Carlo Ancelotti and the CBF failed due to a major obstacle: Real Madrid." In Brazil, Portuguese Jorge Jesus (70/Al-Hilal) is now considered a candidate for the coaching position, which the South Americans hope to have filled by the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in early June.

Ancelotti's second term in the Spanish capital began in the summer of 2021. The end this summer would come neither abruptly nor as a surprise after a disappointing season so far.
The former Italian international is one of the most successful coaches in global football. He has won the Champions League five times – twice with AC Milan and three times with Real Madrid. He has won league titles in all five major European leagues – in Germany in 2017 with FC Bayern Munich. No other coach before him had achieved this feat.
