Champions League: PSG wins semi-final first leg at Arsenal

Paris Saint-Germain narrowly won the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Arsenal 1-0 (1-0). The decisive goal came shortly after kickoff, scored by Ousmane Dembélé. The former Borussia Dortmund Bundesliga player initiated the attack himself with a pass down the left wing, waited on the edge of the penalty area for the ball to be returned, and finished with a direct shot from 16 meters (4th minute). Dembélé, who scored his 33rd competitive goal of the season, was fortunate, as the ball bounced off the inside of the post and into the net.

PSG misses preliminary decision

After taking the lead, PSG remained dominant, and it wasn't until the game progressed that Arsenal also created opportunities. PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, in particular, made some good saves to keep his team from equalizing. The ball even found the Parisians' net at one point, but goalscorer Mikel Merino was just offside (47').

Towards the end of the game, PSG again pressed on and came close to making it 2-0 on several occasions. Perhaps the best chance, perhaps even a preliminary decision in the battle for a place in the final, fell to Goncalo Ramos, who only hit the crossbar (86').

PSG striker Ramos: "Job not done yet"

The return leg will be played next Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in Paris. "We've shown this season that we can also win away games. So we're going to Paris next week and want to win there," Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya said on Amazon Prime.

The Parisians also didn't want to celebrate too soon: "The job isn't done yet. We won one game, but the duel is a two-game affair," said PSG striker Ramos: "We looked Arsenal in the eye, we worked hard, played our football and won. But now we move on."

In the second semifinal, FC Barcelona, coached by former national team coach Hansi Flick, will face Inter Milan . Inter eliminated FC Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals. The final will take place on May 31 in Munich.
