Tariff dispute: Supreme Court doubts the legality of Trump's tariffs

The Supreme Court has a conservative majority of six to three justices. A ruling against Trump would dismantle a key pillar of his economic policy. Trump wrote on Sunday that if the court overturns the tariffs, "we would be defenseless, which might even lead to the ruin of our nation." The tariffs have generated an estimated $89 billion in revenue since the beginning of February. Should the court rule against Trump, the tariffs would likely be maintained by invoking other legal powers, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent , 62, told Reuters.
