Stefanie Hubig was born on December 15, 1968, in Frankfurt am Main. After graduating from high school in 1988, she studied law at the University of Regensburg. She passed the first state law examination in 1993 and the second state law examination in 1995. She received her doctorate in law in 2003.
From 1996 to 2000, she worked as a public prosecutor and judge at the Ingolstadt Regional Court. She then moved to the Federal Ministry of Justice, where she served as head of department from 2005 onward.
In 2008, Hubig moved to the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate, and one year later, she took over as head of the Criminal Law Department in the state's Ministry of Justice. In 2014, she was appointed State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Justice under Minister Heiko Maas. On May 18, 2016, she was appointed Minister of Education in Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2020, she assumed the rotating presidency of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany.
