Vienna - Shortly before his 50th birthday.

A love story found in Vienna's Lost and Found. On his wedding day, an elderly gentleman returns to Vienna to fulfill his vows. But there, he suffers a painful loss. His wallet is gone, along with all his credit cards and identification papers. US filmmakers Miles Merritt & Gail Kempler have now captured their Vienna experiences in moving images: a short film brimming with wit and depth – starring Florentin Groll.

The directing couple invites you to a private preview and press screening of the 27-minute short film "Fundbox – A Love Story" on May 24, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the Top Kino at Rahlgasse 1, 1060 Vienna. Following the screening, there will be an opportunity to ask questions to the two directors, the cast, and the crew. Doors open at 4:45 PM. Registration here: https://forms.gle/jYvnMZjxjxDXppVZA

Imitating the art of life

The question often arises: "Does art imitate life, or does life imitate art?" During a visit to Vienna in late autumn 2023, Texan film director Miles Merrit lost his wallet, along with credit cards and many important IDs. His despair was immense, and the local police were helpful. Thus, the Vienna-based Lost and Found service, which is quite well organized—according to Miles Merrit, a unique service—became the main attraction of the resulting script.

Merrit and his wife Gail Kempler were so overwhelmed by the events that followed that they felt inspired to make their own film loosely based on these experiences. With the support of the Vienna Film Commission and in collaboration with the Viennese studio Bischof Productions, the two Americans assembled an all-Austrian cast and crew and hired musicians who fell in love with the love story.

The result is a somewhat different take on the cliché of the grumpy Viennese, a look at the positive side of human nature that appeals to viewers of all ages and backgrounds. The idea was born out of art imitating life. The short film delivers life imitating art. It presents a positive view of humanity and inspires hope that not everything is bad in our time and that we simply need a little more trust in our fellow human beings and the determination to do the right thing.
