Mönchengladbach Airport, May 16, 2025, 7:52 p.m., Grunewaldstraße - On Friday, May 16, 2025, at approximately 7:52 p.m., the Mönchengladbach Fire Department was called to a fire alarm system in an industrial complex under demolition on Grunewaldstraße.

FW-MG: Fire in an empty industrial facility
Upon arrival, emergency personnel observed light smoke and subsequently located the source of the fire in a control cabinet. The firefighters immediately formed two operational sections. Section one was responsible for firefighting, and section two was responsible for the water supply due to the expansive nature of the site. Several crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire from a safe distance using two attack hoses and monitored the scene with a thermal imaging camera. Due to the large quantities of former production waste from the paper industry, the emergency personnel were unable to carry out mechanical ventilation of the complex as a precautionary measure to prevent the fire from spreading, but had to laboriously check for remaining embers.
The fire brigade from Fire and Rescue Station I (Neuwerk), the rescue fire engine from Fire and Rescue Station II (Holt), the site hygiene vehicle, the roll-off container for special extinguishing agents from the Technology and Logistics Center (Holt), the units of the Neuwerk and Stadtmitte volunteer fire brigades, several ambulances and an emergency doctor as well as the command service of the professional fire brigade were on duty.
