Warning strike at Zalando's logistics center in Erfurt

The goal is to bring Europe's largest fashion retailer to the negotiating table, Verdi said. The company was not immediately available for comment.

The union accuses Zalando of refusing to enter into collective bargaining negotiations. To exert further pressure, the warning strike will continue until Wednesday morning. Approximately 80 employees from the early shift participated at the beginning.

Verdi is demanding recognition of the collective bargaining agreements for the retail and mail-order sectors in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. It stated that wages for warehouse workers there are about 10 percent higher than Zalando currently pays. In addition, higher bonuses, shorter working hours, collectively agreed pension plans, and other improvements are also being sought.

"It's not a matter of money. Zalando employees generated more than €500 million in net profit last fiscal year," said union secretary Matthias Adorf. Paying the collectively agreed wages would cost Zalando only a fraction of that profit. It's about appreciation and respect.

The first round of strikes took place in mid-April. Zalando has around 2,500 employees in Erfurt.
