Court in North Rhine-Westphalia: No protection from deportation for Syrians

Düsseldorf. The Düsseldorf Administrative Court has given the green light in two cases for the deportation of Syrians to their home country. The court found that the returnees no longer faced any significant danger in Syria.
In the men's home regions – the provinces of Damascus and Latakia – the level of indiscriminate violence is not high enough to pose a serious threat to them. Nor is impoverishment expected upon their return. According to current information and existing return and aid programs, there is no general emergency situation, the statement continued.

The decisions are final. The two Syrian asylum seekers had previously been denied refugee protection in Austria. The decisions concern a 46-year-old Syrian cook and his 26-year-old son. Neither man has committed any crimes in Germany and they now face deportation.
According to the Central Register of Foreigners (as of the end of August), 951,406 Syrians live in Germany. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, as of August, 920 people in Germany are required to leave the country and do not have tolerated stay status. Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) is urging a swift resumption of deportations to Syria.
The German government wants to deport those who have committed crimes particularly quickly. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) stated that they are in the process of "reaching agreements with Syria that will also enable returns to Syria." In September, he told the Rheinische Post: "We want to reach an agreement with Syria this year and then initially deport criminals and later people without residency rights." The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is already doing preparatory work and is again processing asylum applications from Syrians – "primarily from employable, young men," as the ministry recently stated.
