Buying voters: Donald Trump wants to pay US citizens $2,000 per person

US President Donald Trump plans to pay citizens a so-called "dividend" of at least $2,000 per capita. He announced this on the platform Truth Social. Only high-income earners will be excluded.

In the post, Trump praised the US economy: the tariffs would generate "trillions of dollars," allowing the country to soon begin paying off its enormous debt. "People who oppose tariffs are FOOLS!" Trump wrote. However, the tariff revenue is unlikely to be enough to curb the exploding US national debt, which is already skyrocketing in light of massive tax cuts. The US is threatened with economic decline not only because of its extremely high debt.
