AfD must vacate its federal headquarters in Berlin

After the federal election, an AfD party caused trouble with the landlord. Now a court has made its decision.
According to a ruling, the AfD must vacate its federal headquarters in Berlin in the fall of 2026, earlier than stipulated in its lease. The Berlin Regional Court ruled that the party violated regulations by holding its election party in the courtyard of the office building after the federal election on February 23. However, Judge Burkhard Niebisch stated that this does not justify immediate termination.
The AfD has thus partially successfully defended itself against a corresponding eviction suit. An appeal against the ruling can be filed with the Berlin Higher Regional Court, the next higher court.
The company that owns the property, located in the out-of-town area of Reinickendorf, had given the party notice of termination without notice because of the election party. The leases actually run until the end of 2027, but each one provides for special termination rights.
