Dresden: Right-wing violent offender arrested after attack on Tunisian

During a violent altercation on a Dresden tram on Tuesday afternoon, a 35-year-old Tunisian man was stabbed in the neck. Shortly afterward, police arrested two German citizens – a 26-year-old and a 35-year-old. Both have been implicated in politically motivated crimes in the past and are associated with the right-wing spectrum, according to police.
Against this background, the State Security Department of the Dresden Police has taken over the investigation on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm.
According to current information, the two men got into an argument with the Tunisian citizen on a tram on line 12. They subsequently stabbed the man in the neck. The victim was immediately taken to a Dresden hospital.
Witnesses who observed the incident alerted the police. Officers immediately arrived and arrested the 26-year-old suspect on Wernerstrasse. His 35-year-old accomplice was arrested by police shortly afterwards in the area of Baluschekstrasse. The officers also found and confiscated the suspected murder weapon.
The men arrested were under the influence of alcohol. A blood alcohol test for the 26-year-old revealed a blood alcohol level of 2.6 per mille, while the 35-year-old's blood alcohol level was 3.2 per mille. The men are currently in police custody.
