Good news for employees in Austria: A new tax-free performance bonus of up to 1,000 euros is to be introduced this year.
Following the cost-of-living bonuses of 2022 and 2023, which allowed companies to pay their employees up to €3,000 tax-free, a new performance bonus is now being introduced. This will be introduced with a maximum amount of €1,000 per year and will continue to be tax- and duty-free, as reported by finanz.at.
Unlike previous regulations, the new bonus will no longer be tied to works agreements or collective bargaining agreements. Employers can decide independently on the awarding of the bonus. What's particularly pleasing is that the bonus is available to all types of employment—from full-time to part-time to marginal employment.
Economics Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (ÖVP) underscored the importance of this measure: "We are saving, we are consolidating – but we must not forget the people who create jobs and prosperity every day." Implementation is planned for this year, despite general austerity efforts and budget consolidation.
