Booking Exec Says We're 'Agnostic' on Canadians Picking Mexico Over the U.S.

The advantage of Booking Holdings' size and wide geographic footprint is that a problem in one region might be balanced by gains in another. That means being agnostic can be part of the strategy.

Booking Holdings is seeing stable travel demand through April even though the company finds that fewer Canadians and Europeans are traveling to the U.S.

That's because Europeans are choosing to travel instead to destinations such as Canada, Asia and within Europe, and they are spending about the same on their trips, Booking Holdings Chief Financial Officer Ewout Steenbergen told analysts during the company's first-quarter earnings call Tuesday.

Likewise, he said, more Canadians are skipping the U.S. in favor of Mexico.

"To us, we are agnostic to where they are traveling," Steenbergen said.

He said more than 50% of Booking Holdings' business is in Europe,
