ICEYE will collaborate with a Japanese company. The first satellites will be launched next year.

- ICEYE and the Japanese company IHI will jointly build a constellation of Earth observation satellites.
- Delivery of the first satellites is scheduled for April 2026, with a total of 24.
- This will make it possible to monitor objects on Earth 24/7, regardless of the time and weather conditions.
The constellation being created will be intended for both security and civilian applications, including commercial ones.
Under the signed agreement, IHI has ordered the first four satellites and the associated image acquisition system. The agreement also includes an option for an additional 20 satellites at a later date.
The first satellites will be tested in Japan next year. The launch of the first satellites and the gradual launch of data delivery capabilities are planned for April 2026.
ICEYE satellites use radar to create detailed images regardless of cloud cover or time of day, enabling continuous monitoring of the Earth's surface for defense, emergency response and environmental management purposes.
ICEYE has been building a partnership with Japan since 2018. It is grounded in shared values and focused on creating innovative solutions. This agreement with IHI represents another milestone in building our partnership and mutually reinforcing security and resilience," says ICEYE CEO and co-founder Rafał Modrzewski.
"By combining IHI's engineering expertise with ICEYE's SAR technologies, we guarantee sovereign access to critical Earth observation data. We are thus supporting Japan's leading role in acquiring intelligence from space," Modrzewski added.
The first two satellites of the four launched in the first batch will be assembled and tested in Japan. Preparations for this are already underway jointly by both companies.
Construction of the satellite constellation will be completed in 2029.Following the successful completion of the demonstration phase, IHI plans to complete the order for the next 20 optional satellites in phases, starting in fiscal year 2026 and continuing until the entire constellation of 24 satellites is completed by the end of fiscal year 2029.
"At IHI, we consistently strive to build a secure and stable society, which is a difficult challenge in a rapidly changing world. This undertaking is an investment in the future of our company. In collaboration with ICEYE, we are taking on the challenge of creating new value through advanced satellite technologies. By building a constellation of Earth observation satellites, we want to address not only the needs of national and economic security, but also a broad spectrum of societal challenges. By leveraging the IHI Group's production potential, we will create infrastructure that will become an essential asset for society in the near future," commented IHI President Hiroshi Ide.
The agreement was signed in fulfillment of the provisions of the cooperation agreement concluded by ICEYE and IHI in May 2025.
The agreement involved jointly developing a constellation and establishing domestic satellite production in Japan. This collaboration is based on the vision of both companies to combine ICEYE's technology and rapid satellite deployment capabilities with IHI's engineering expertise, with the goal of supporting the development of Japan's manufacturing and space industries.
